Quran - Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy

Provider: Taltola ("Taltola", "we", "us", or "our")

Application: Quran (the "App")

Version: 1.0.0

Effective date: August 17, 2026

1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy (together, the "Terms") are a legally binding agreement between you and Taltola governing your use of the App. You must agree to the current Terms before using the App. Agreement is required once per installation and again after App updates or Terms updates.

You must be legally able to form a binding contract to use the App. If you use the App on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. License to Use the App

Subject to your continued compliance with these Terms, Taltola grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to install and use the App for lawful personal reading, study, and reference.

We reserve all rights not expressly granted. You may not sell, rent, lease, sublicense, distribute, reverse engineer, decompile, remove proprietary notices from, or misuse the App except where such restrictions are prohibited by applicable law.

3. Local Reading and Account Features

The App is designed so core Quran reading, search, navigation, and bundled language resources can work locally after you agree to these Terms. You do not need an account just to open the App and read.

Some features require a Taltola account or third-party sign-in, including protected downloads, profile features, cloud-backed progress, badges, account security, and account linking. When you sign up, sign in, request downloads, update your profile, link a provider, or use authenticated features, Taltola collects and stores information needed to operate those features.

This information may include your name, email address, authentication and verification status, profile photo, bio, gender, birthdate, pronouns, religion, sect and madhhab, occupation, organization, education, languages, interests, relationship status, hometown, nationality, linked sign-in providers, download requests, selected reciters and language packs, Qira'at and reading preferences, bookmarks, reading position, reading time, usage events, badge progress, app version, device and platform details, IP address, user agent, security events, rate-limit events, and other technical metadata related to App use. Taltola uses this information to authenticate users, protect the API, provide downloads, sync progress, award badges, improve the App, understand product usage, make marketing and product decisions, provide support, prevent abuse, and comply with law.

Taltola may use AWS and other service providers to process and store this information, including Cognito, API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch, email delivery services, captcha providers, and third-party identity providers that you choose to use.

4. Taltola Pro Subscriptions, Cancellation, and Refunds

Taltola Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription bought through the App Store. Taltola Max is the same subscription one plan up, with a larger monthly coin budget and more storage; everything in this section applies to both. Changing between the two plans takes effect when the period you have already paid for ends, never before. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, and the subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can cancel at any time from the Store & Subscription tab in Settings or from your device’s subscription settings.

Cancelling does not refund the period you have already paid for. You keep every Pro feature until the end of that paid period; the subscription then ends by itself and the account returns to Taltola Basic. Taltola does not issue refunds for partial periods, unused credit, or unused storage. Refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under its own terms.

Taltola may, at its discretion, give you one month of Taltola Pro as a gift. A gifted month is free of charge, ends automatically after thirty days, and may be ended earlier by you at any time or withdrawn by Taltola at any time. A gifted month is separate from any subscription you have purchased and never changes, replaces, or extends it.

5. Quran Text, Translations, Tafsir, Audio, and Indexes

The App bundles Quran text, translations, Tafsir references, recitation information, audio metadata, and navigation metadata for local use. These materials are gathered from sources that Taltola believes to be credible and useful for Quran reading and study.

Even when sources are credible, errors can still occur. Translations, transliterations, Tafsir excerpts, search results, navigation groupings, audio metadata, generated indexes, formatting, labels, references, and any bundled explanatory material may contain omissions, source limitations, transcription issues, translation differences, outdated information, misinformation, incorrect information, or mistakes.

By using the App, you acknowledge and agree that Taltola is not liable for any misinformation, incorrect information, missing information, inaccurate source attribution, translation issue, Tafsir issue, recitation metadata issue, search/index issue, display issue, or any decision, action, misunderstanding, harm, loss, or damage arising from content in the App. You are responsible for verifying important religious, educational, legal, or personal decisions with reliable sources and qualified scholars.

The App is not a substitute for a qualified scholar, teacher, imam, or professional adviser.

6. No Professional or Religious Advice

The App provides informational and reference material only. Taltola does not provide religious rulings, legal advice, medical advice, financial advice, counseling, or other professional advice through the App. You use the App and any content in it at your own risk.

7. Your Device and Local Storage

You are responsible for your device, operating system, local files, backups, permissions, storage, and security. Software can fail. Taltola is not responsible for data loss, local storage corruption, lost settings, inaccessible files, audio playback failure, display problems, update problems, or other damage arising from use of the App.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE APP AND ALL CONTENT, TRANSLATIONS, TAFSIR, AUDIO, INDEXES, SEARCH RESULTS, AND FEATURES ARE PROVIDED AS IS AND AS AVAILABLE, WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.

Taltola DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, QUIET ENJOYMENT, ACCURACY, AVAILABILITY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. Taltola DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP OR ANY CONTENT IN IT WILL BE CORRECT, COMPLETE, CURRENT, RELIABLE, ERROR-FREE, OR SUITABLE FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Taltola AND ITS OWNERS, OPERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, FILES, GOODWILL, PROFITS, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE APP OR THESE TERMS.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Taltola's TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE APP OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO LIABILITY OR ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100).

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Taltola and its owners, operators, and contributors from claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising out of or relating to your use or misuse of the App, your violation of these Terms, your violation of law, or your violation of the rights of any third party.

11. Dispute Resolution; No Class Actions

Before bringing any claim, you agree to contact Taltola and attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally.

At Taltola's sole discretion and election, any dispute arising out of or relating to the App or these Terms may first be submitted to confidential, non-binding mediation before any other proceeding begins. If a dispute is not resolved informally or through mediation where elected, it will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration administered by a recognized arbitration provider, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court where permitted.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, disputes must be brought only in your individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding. You and Taltola waive any right to a jury trial to the maximum extent permitted by law.

12. Your Recitations (User-Submitted Content)

The App lets a signed-in reader record their own recitation of the Quran, page by page ("Your Recitation"), store it privately in Taltola's systems, and optionally publish it so that other users can select and listen to it as a user-submitted reciter.

You keep ownership of Your Recitation. Recording alone keeps it private to your account; you are never required to publish it. Publishing is a separate, explicit choice, and before you publish, the App shows you these licence terms and records your acceptance of them.

When you choose to publish, every ayah you have recorded is shared with every reader as a community reciter; each ayah you have not yet recorded plays as five seconds of silence and the reading moves on. You may publish a part at a time (an ayah, a surah, a juz, or everything recorded) and add to it later; one recitation may be published per account. Before publishing you accept the following, exactly as the App shows it:

  • You keep ownership of your recitation.
  • You grant Taltola a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, promote, and monetize it, including through ads and revenue.
  • Your recitation is shown to other readers under the reciters and Tilawat menus.
  • The licence is revocable — unpublish at any time to withdraw it.
  • You can download your recitation whenever you like.

Each submission is reviewed before it is shown to anyone: your reciter name and every submitted ayah's recording are checked, by rules and by an automated reviewer, and anything that is not a respectful recitation is refused with the reason. A submission costs one Taltola Coin per ayah submitted, whether it is approved or refused; a review that cannot be completed for a fault of ours is refunded.

When you choose to publish Your Recitation, you grant Taltola a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, stream, display, promote, and otherwise make Your Recitation available to other users of the App and Taltola's services, and to monetize that use, including through advertising and other revenue arrangements. Because the licence is non-exclusive, you keep the right to use Your Recitation yourself and to license it to others.

This licence lasts only while Your Recitation is published. You may unpublish Your Recitation at any time, which revokes the licence going forward and removes Your Recitation from the user-submitted reciter registry so that Taltola stops offering it to other users, although cached or in-transit copies may persist briefly. You may download Your Recitation from the App at any time, and you may delete it, which removes the stored audio.

You represent that Your Recitation is your own recitation, that you have the right to grant this licence, and that publishing it does not violate any law or the rights of any third party. Taltola may decline to publish, or may remove, any recitation it believes violates these Terms or applicable law. These ownership terms concern your recorded audio; they do not apply to the Quran text itself.

13. Privacy Policy

Taltola collects account, profile, security, download, progress, badge, preference, and usage information as described above when you create an account, sign in, use protected downloads, update your profile, link a provider, or use authenticated features. Some local settings and policy acceptance records may remain on your device so the App can function.

Taltola does not sell your personal information. Taltola may share information with infrastructure providers, authentication providers, email and captcha providers, analytics or product tooling used by Taltola, legal or compliance recipients where required, and successors involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

You can use local reading features without signing in after agreeing to these Terms. If you do not want authenticated account, profile, download, progress, badge, or provider-linking data collected, do not sign in or use those authenticated features.

If you separately choose to use operating-system services, app-store services, backup tools, screen readers, third-party audio devices, or other third-party tools with the App, those services may operate under their own terms and privacy policies. Taltola does not control those third parties.

14. Changes to These Terms

Taltola may modify, update, or replace these Terms, including this Privacy Policy, at any time in its discretion as the App, law, distribution model, or company practices evolve. When these Terms or the App are updated, you may be required to review and agree again before continuing to use the App.

If you do not agree to updated Terms, you must stop using the App.

15. Termination

These Terms remain in effect while you use the App. Taltola may suspend or terminate your license if you breach these Terms or for any other reason permitted by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

16. Third-Party and Open-Source Components

The App may include third-party and open-source software, Quran datasets, translations, Tafsir resources, and audio resources, each of which may be provided under separate licenses or source terms. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under applicable third-party or open-source licenses.

17. Miscellaneous

These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Taltola regarding the App. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; Taltola may assign them freely. You agree to comply with applicable export-control and sanctions laws.

18. Contact

Questions about these Terms may be directed to Taltola.

By selecting I Agree, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, including the account and activity data collection disclosure, local-storage disclosure, disclaimers for misinformation and incorrect information, limitation of liability, dispute-resolution terms, and the requirement to agree again after updates or reinstallations.
